Oh what a week we have planned for you! We’re super excited to play with our friends at DecoArt. Mixed Media Artist and DecoArt International Education Coordinator Andy Skinner has designed some fantastic stamps for Stampendous, and we’re going to be showing them off all week long.
Along with the Stampendous Design Team, Andy and his team of international mixed media artists including Julia Stratford-Wright, Mark Gould, Mel Hookham, and Jools Robertson, will be sharing their projects. There will be posts this week on the DecoArt blog as well.

Prizes
Of course there are pizes, not one, not two but THREE lucky people will win this amazing prize pack, each has a Fluid Media Starter Kit, all three of Andy Skinner’s new Stampendous Stamp sets, and a Jumbo Acrylic Handle. Be sure to like my Facebook page Stamp This, I will post the winners next week and this prize pack could be yours!!

You’ll want to get your commenting fingers ready…so put down your paintbrushes! Each comment on a post this week will enter you to win a fabulous prize package! (one comment per post, per person)  Contest open to everyone!!

Here is my card for today.  I love mixed media but I have a very hard time making it since I am more of a neat, clean and precise crafter.  With mixed media you never know what you are going to get, and while creating you experiment and get dirty, that drives me crazy.  With that being said I am happy with the way this turned out.

First I brayered Primary Cyan Media Fluid Acrylic onto a full sheet of Mixed Media White Paper followed by Primary Yellow, then Titanium White to tone it down a bit.

Once the paint was dry,  stamps from the Toxic Set were randomly stamped with Gama Green, Lightning Black and Pearlescent Orange Brilliance Ink.

Now the paper was cut into four 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 pieces, three to use later.
Next the butterfly stencil from the Butterfly Duet Set was placed on the panel and held in place with removable tape.  Paint with DecoArt Media Gesso, let dry and outline with the pen that comes with the Butterfly Duet Set.

Layer stencils, secure with removable tape, then stipple with Rocket Red Brilliance.  Remove stencils and shadow with black chalk using a flat brush.

To finish it off Aged Black Embossing Enamel was sprinkled on, heated from underneath and glued onto a goldenrod card with 3 in 1 Glue.  A key charm was glued to the center of the butterfly with 3 in 1 Glue. Then lastly a sentiment was stamped at the bottom from the Say It Today Perfectly Clear Set.

Now go take a look at what the other designers have for you today.

Great creation. You said exactly how I feel. Love the mixed media but love clean and precise. However, you did a great job. The key on the butterfly was a great idea. Fun colors.

I love the butterfly and the background! I'm the same way when it comes to working with watercolor paint- I like to be neat in my crafting, but can't seem to be with watercolor paint!

I'm like you - everything has to be neat and tidy.
I haven't done much mixed media - too busy making
regular greeting cards and working on my needlepoint.
I have a lot of the items needed and should put them
to use.
Love your butterfly.
thanks for sharing.

That is so cool! I love the look you made with the shading on the butterfly. I thought it was a separate piece. I love the key as the body too.

Kristiina said...

I too would have guessed the butterfly was separate and mounted on foam or something :) really effective shading!

I love the juxtaposition of the symmetrical design on the butterfly and the background hazard. The perfectionist in me has a hard time "freely" creating so I know what you mean.

It was like I was reading the same comment I have said many times before on my blog. I love mixed media too and I have spent the last year trying to figure out if I could bring mixed media into my card creations. I have learnt how to but I now prefer to create CAS cards but really mucky tags and off the page creations. I am what my husband kindly called an eclectic crafter and after reading your post I would guess you are too.
Having said and shared that you made a drop dead gorgeous mixed media card and I love what you did to that butterfly! Thanks for the fabulous inspiration and great hop Karen x

The combination of your beautiful mixed media background and the simplicity of the butterfly is really sweet! Colors work beautifully! (doing something that is not your norm is stressful...I understand)
