Artist Trading Block Hop

ATB_Blog_hop

The big “block” hop day is here! It’s time to pull up your comfy chair and favorite beverage while you are inspired by what the designers are creating for their own Artist Trading Blocks.

We are thrilled to bring you a blog hop today with more amazing artist trading block projects! Our designers have created some fabulous projects for today and we know you are excited to see them.

We want to thank Eileen Hull, her amazing team and the fabulous products we were able to use this week. The idea of creating an artist trading block has changed our way of creating with new excitement. Even though we traditionally end our product partner weeks on a Friday the inspiration will continue as more projects come in and will be posted in a cumulative list at the end of each week.

We’ll choose three winners at random from the comments on all blogs in the hop. Then from those three we’ll randomly pick a GRAND PRIZE winner! Two of the winners will receive Stampendous PenPattern Petal and PenPattern Flutter cling stamps, just like you’ll see on Kristine Reynolds amazing ATB sample. They’ll also receive enough pre-cut, premium matboard from Sizzix to make two boxes of your own, plus some extra pieces for fiddly bits! The Grand Prize winner will receive the stamps as above, a whole package of matboard, AND the Sizzix die to cut your own ATB boxes! Uh, WOW! If that weren’t enough, eligibility for these amazing prize packages has expanded to include our international fans too!

Here is my project

This was so much fun to make!  The chip board die as a little intimidating to me, I was afraid I would make a mistake and I only had two boxes to work with.  So I cut 6, 3" squares of Mixed Media White Paper, designed on those then glued them on.  That way if I blew it, it was no big deal!  Here is what I did;

1.  Rub Pearlescent Lime and Pearlescent Sky Blue Brilliance ink pads directly on the cut squares.
2.  Randomly stamp script on all pieces with Sky Blue Brilliance and randomly paste emboss portions of the panels using the stencil from the Kaffee Klatsch set.
3.  Assemble the ATB box, sponge the edges with sky blue and glue on the panels using Zip Dry from Beacon Adhesives.
3.  Stamp images from the Build A Bouquet Set, color with pencils and die cut using the matching Build A Bouquet Die Cut Set.  Glue to box.

4.  Stamp sentiments from the Happy Greetings Perfectly Clear Set on Core'dinations white glitter paper with Pearlescent Lavender and Onyx Black Versafine, emboss with clear.

5.  Paint wooden beads from Build Ur Beads with DecoArt Acrylic paints and glue to the bottom of the box with 3 in 1 glue from Beacon Adhesives.
Here is a better look at the top.

Here is my project

1. Stampendous had an opportunity to meet Eileen as she traveled around the country teaching classes in her vintage trailer, Scotty. She stopped by Stampendous, and they decided a collaboration was in order. She let us have a trading block die and each Stampendous designer received enough premium matboard (Thanks, Sizzix!!) to create two blocks for our January Catalog.  Talk about being shoved “out of the box”!  So I sponged the edges of the diecut matboard with Pearlescent Orchid Brilliance and assembled the block.

2.  I then cut paper I had painted with the Creative Palette and DecoArts paint, then cut it into 3" squares once dry.
3.  One piece was glued to the back side of the ATB, then purple ribbon was tied around the block with the bow over the painted paper.

4.  The other panels were then glued over the ribbon using Beacon Adhesives Zip Dry.
5.  The three houses from the Family Home Perfectly Clear Set were stamped onto Mixed Media White Paper with Tuxedo Black Memento ink and colored with Prisma pencils, then cut out. (Tuesday Tip and Trick- when coloring with pencils layer colors for example pink under purple, yellow under orange, light pink under darker think.  When you are done go over you work with a "blender pencil."  They are clear but do an amazing job at blending your colors and making them more vibrant.  All different brands are available and the one I currently have is Lyra Rembrandt-Splender.  You can pick them up in the artist section of your local craft store like Michael's, Hobby Lobby...)
6.  Glue the houses to the ATB, stamp saying from the Family Home set with Victorian Violet, cut out with the ticket die from the Build A Pop Up Die Set and glue to the ATB.
7.  For the lid a heart was cut from white paper, rubbed with Versamark ink and embossed with Shabby Pink Embossing Enamel.  Since this embossing enamel is so chunky, be sure to heat it from the bottom so it doesn't blow off.  The saying is stamped on white paper that has been stamped with one of the Andy Skinner stamps from the Industrial set.  Layer onto purple paper and pop up on the heart.

Tea Time

Break out the frou frou! For the month of February, the Dream Team are going Frilly and Fabulous! Vintage, retro, or modern, adding extra charm with fun Fran•tagéproducts from Stampendous, ribbons and lace from May Arts, buttons, crystals, charms, or even creating your own dimensional decor! A snippet or a pile, whatever your creative heart desires! Remember to link your creations using the Inlinkz tool on the Dream It Up! blog for a chance to win the stencil of your choice! Bonus points for using Dreamweaver and/or Stampendous product in your work of heart.

Here's what I've been playing with:

1.  Die cut DG681 Nested Teacups (the middle size, it comes in a set of three) out of pink paper, stamp with Floral Tapestry, emboss with Ivory embossing powder and color with Distress markers then sponges edges with pink ink.  Set aside.
2.  NK Studio Kaffee Klatsch set has some great designs that work perfectly as a doily. One of the stamps was stamped onto tan paper with Shabby Pink embossing powder and cut out.  Set aside.
3.  The background paper was made using the Creative Palette Rounds with two shade of pink paint from Deco Art.  When dry sponge copper paint from Deco Art on LX7028 I Beams.  Let dry.
4.  Now for a little Frantage, sprinkle Shabby Pink embossing enamel onto the background paper being careful not to use to much or you won't be able to see the image.  Heat from underneath the paper so the powder doesn't blow off.
5.  Glue lace to panel (all layers glued with Zip Dry Glue) and layer on the stamped doily, a skeleton leaf that has been embossed with Jeweled Gold embossing powder.
6.  Glue feathers to the underneath of the teacup, tie tag that has been stamped with the small doily stamp in Beige Brilliance and words from Angel Wings Quotes Perfectly Clear Set in Black Versafine ink. Tie to teacup and glue to card.
